Tips For Family Travel

by Trip Wend

It is needless to say that you like to travel alone when you are young and independent. You enjoyed the feeling of freedom, of seeing new places and meeting new people and speaking with them during traditional summer holiday in Florida.

But if you’re traveling with a family, the things are no longer easy to be found. Family travel is new level of challenge compared to traveling on your own or with friends. Below are some tips on how you can deal with those challenges when traveling as a family.

One of the first difficulty in family travel is the cost. As you know children do not fly for free after the first couple of years, and airline tickets are not cheap. Discount airfares is the answer to this problem. If you try then you can find amazing deals on airline tickets, making air travel affordable.

The advantage of the car is its relative cheapness. It doesn’t cost much more to drive a car with five people in it, than one that you are alone in. At least in terms of money, that is. When it comes to your sanity, a long drive in a full car can be very costly indeed.

There are a few steps you can take to handle your children at the back seat. First make regular stops. It is usually not worth getting back fast, that may lead to impatient, but the worm like passengers will like to stop at every five minutes.

When stopping, there should be place to go around for the children. Sparing some of the physical energy makes it helpful to sit still in the car later. Also try to run around yourself. Exercise has a stress reducing effect. You can use it.

You should make arrangement for food and water for everyone in the car at reasonable intervals. It will be helpful for the hungry or thirsty passenger. The food that can be eaten with less messiness like snacks can be carried over.

Family travel has many good points with it. Sharing the experiences with your own family members can make them to feel better. Take the time to enjoy the kids’ perspective. Then only you can have a great family travel experience.

Travelling on a London flight with a Bomb in my luggage

by Craig Walker

When you check-in for your London flight or in fact any flight from a UK airport since the security concerns have been heightened you are asked a few simple questions. These simple questions are for everyones safety.

Did you pack your luggage yourself? This is usually the first question you get asked. This is to make sure that you know what is in the case and to make sure someone else didn’t put anything else in.

Have your bags been left unsupervised at any time prior to your arrival at the airport. This could be a hotel room or a hotel reception whilst you are waiting to go to the airport. This is to make sure that your luggage could not have been tampered with and that there has not been anything put in your bags without your knowledge.

Even though there have been many well publicized security issues at airports throughout the world and in the UK people still think it is amusing to say ‘there is a bomb in my bag’

Amazingly this wisecrack gets people arrested at airports throughout the country on a regular basis. Airport staff are instructed to take these comments seriously as are the police who must treat every incident as genuine.

Don’t be surprised if you read in the newspapers about someone getting a jail sentence or a fine and community service for doing this.

If the staff hears one of these comments it is not unusual for aircraft and even airports to be evacuated causing a lot of disruption and at great cost to the airlines and airport itself.

So after checking that you packed the luggage yourself and that it has been in your possession the whole time you only have to worry about any excess baggage charges unless someone travelling with you makes a bomb in the luggage wisecrack.

Us Passports-where We Are And Where We’re Going

by Trip Wend

Applying for your passport is the step toward international travel. To get a new passport, an applicant must complete an applicant as properly and correctly as possible. The government depends on accurate information to identify the traveler, and the traveler’s intentions when going abroad.

Choosing the right form is to make application is important. First time applicants use the “DS-11″ Form. Applicants for renewals by mail utilize the “DS-82.” Instructions to the “DS-11″ require that this form only be used by first time applicants, so renewals should not be filed using the aDS-11.a

When changing or validating a passport, applicants need to submit the “DS-19.” Amendments to any information contained on the existing passport must be included on the “DS-19″ Form. In some special circumstances, multiple forms are required. If a passport in lost or stolen, not only does a “DS-11″ need to be sent, but also a “DS-64″ Form. Further, when applying on behalf of a child under the age of 14, the “DS-11″ is submitted in addition to the “DS-3053.”

The time taken to obtain a U.S. passport is normally two weeks. However, it may take a little longer during spring and summer, as they are the busiest periods. Also with the U.S. passport application, it is required for the applicant to submit proof of U.S. citizenship and identity, two passport-sized photos and the applicable fee to obtain a U.S. passport

The total fee charged is $97 for citizens above 16 years of age, and $82 for those who are under 16- a very low price indeed to obtain your right to travel. When you are traveling outside the USA, you must have your passport with you. A passport issued by the US Department of State certifies you as a citizen of your country, when requesting permission to enter other countries.

If you have never been a possessor of a US passport or your last US passport has been expired for more than 12 years, or your recent US passport has been stolen, lost or damaged, then you must apply for a new US passport. If a person is applying for the first time, then he needs to do so in person. International travel is considered a right that cannot be denied to any citizen. Even so, not very long ago, people who held views associated with communism, like Paul Robeson and W.E.B. Dubois, were denied a US passport. However, the U.S. Department of State cogently maintained that they have the right to screen people and revoke their passports if necessary. For the same reasons, US passports to Libya, Lebanon and Iraq are still denied.

As security safeguards have become more stringent, the U.S. passport has started including biometric data as to the applicant’s individualized traits like fingerprints, retinal scans, birthmarks and tattoos for enhanced security features. These advances have made travel safer for those seeking to travel all over the world.

A more technological revamp of the passport is also be considered called the ae-passport.a This modernized citizenship document will include a new design and more stringent security safeguards. The embedded computer chip will contain important identification data, and will bring better opportunities and significant positive changes to citizens of the U.S. when traveling internationally.

Flying With An Infant - Homeland Security Travel Restrictions

by Trip Wend

If you are traveling with an infant and you are alone the effort you have to exert and the amount of time that you have to allow can be more than double than when you are on your own. Homeland security travel restrictions involved in todayas travel can be challenging to say the least.

To face these challenges, your preparation should start well before you leave your home. If you are departing not from your home but from another less familiar point, such as a hotel in a city you are visiting, or a friend’s or a relatives home, there could be additional considerations you have to make.

If departing to a foreign city travel restrictions could be even more challenging. Preparations should be started several weeks in advance before leaving. Knowing how long you will stay will determine whether separate passports will be needed for you your infant or if it will be possible to include your infant’s name on your passport.

If your travel plans include a foreign country then visas for both you and your infant may need to be obtained. You will need a birth certificate for your child, and immunizations completed, along with proof may be necessary. These records should also be carried with you as well. The above discussion applies to most foreign countries, however it would be a good idea to check with your travel agent or do your own research online if traveling to such countries as Canada is less restrictive.

In any case, the very first step in your travel preparation is to get all your travel documents ready for your infant. With this accomplished it is time to pay attention to your infantas special needs during travel. You should be able to address most of these without much extra effort because you are traveling. Infants are special and most of their needs are special enough that it makes little difference whether they are at home or at the airport or flying. But here are some points to pay attention to.

Most airlines allow infant carriers, however you should check with homeland security to make sure your carrier meets the required restrictions. For instance, the carrier needs to be able to fit inside the x-ray scanning mechanism at security check-in, and should have no sharp metal points that can be removed from the carrier.

Special attention needs to be placed on medication as well, since security measures impose that only a certain amount of fluids may be in your possession. If you are not breast feeding, it might be wise to pack powdered formula in plastic baggies, and once cleared and the check-point purchase bottled water to use in the bottles. Liquid medications your infant might take need to be in clearly labeled containers and must not exceed the specified volumes.

Traveling should be fun and rewarding, and having an infant in today’s world should not impose on your travel plans, or fun. Security restrictions are in place for a reason, though it can add a significant amount of time to the preparation process. However in most cases, most if it is probably already done, considering you are traveling with an infant. It also ensures that travel is safe and orderly, which could be considered the first step towards having fun.
